SunCommon Partners with VEEP to Support Energy Education

Many of us have grown up without fully understanding where our energy comes from. Unless you were raised off the grid in a solar home in the land of mountaintop removal (like our Solar Community Organizer Clary Franko!), you might have an abstract understanding of what happens behind the scenes to keep your food cold and rooms illuminated.

The Vermont Energy Education Program (VEEP) makes changing this reality their priority by providing and supporting hands on education programs for kids all over the Vermont.  VEEP operates off the idea that:

“We learn by doing, but only if we reflect on what we have done”

This quote by John Dewey captures a core principle of the Vermont Energy Education Program’s approach to teaching, what we call “Hands-On, Minds-On.” Dewey’s quote and this phrase both describe is the critical link between interaction and reflection, a link that often gets missed. Hands on is good, but it’s not enough.” (VEEP Website)

As energy game changers, SunCommon folks are big fans of the work that VEEP is doing and are excited to share a space with them this month in our downtown Burlington Pop Up Store. (152 Cherry St.)

Join us there in Burlington this Saturday morning from 11 – 12 for a fun hands on program geared towards kids (but also a ton of fun for adults too  – we bet you will learn more than you expect!) Event RSVP.
