Beyond the Plastic Straw: A Plastic-Free July Conversation – Kingston, NY

July 16, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

SunCommon and Rough Draft present Beyond the Plastic Straw: A “Plastic-Free July” conversation about disposability culture, the climate, and finding sustainable solutions.

From metal drinking straws to reusable water bottles, there is a growing market of alternatives to single-use plastics, but are all of these options actually better for the planet? Join Cal Trumann, one of our SunCommon community organizers, for an entertaining and nuanced look at plastic and plastic alternatives in our lives.

We’ll review the science and history of this petroleum-based product, how it became so ubiquitous, and its impact on the environment. We’ll look at those plastic-free products too – are they really helping the environment, or are some of them just fueling more consumption? Let’s find solutions that take the whole planet into account.

Come enjoy an evening at Rough Draft and a thoughtful chat about doing good for the planet. The first 20 attendees to arrive* will receive a FREE Rough Draft reusable coffee tumbler from KeepCup (like SunCommon, also a B Corporation!), so arrive early to make sure you’re one of them.

This event is free with food or drink purchase from the bar. Rough Draft offers beer, wine, hard cider, coffee, tea, and assorted soft drinks. Please, no outside food or drink.
