Why are more people investing in home energy storage?
Also called “battery backup,” a home energy storage system serves the same purpose as a generator, except it’s silent, automatic, and runs on electricity instead of fossil fuels. That means when the power goes out in your neighborhood, your home’s basic electric needs (lights, heat, internet, fridge, well pump, etc) will keep running with no interruption.
Two Powerwall batteries can store enough energy for the average home’s daily energy needs, and when you pair Powerwall with a solar system, your solar panels can recharge your batteries during the day, allowing for multiple days of backup power. While pairing Powerwall with solar is recommended to increase its backup potential, it’s not necessary, and in fact, the federal government recently extended its 30% solar tax credit to stand-alone energy storage systems!
