Bright ideas never stop

Now and in the future, the solar industry must continually improve, innovate, and develop new technology in order to fight climate change and replace fossil fuels. While our last blog focused on solar battery backup as an important development in energy security, this one will highlight some of the latest solar technology SunCommon has to offer, with creative solutions that will lower your long-term energy costs, improve reliability, and reduce your carbon footprint.

Solar technology is nothing new. We can date it back to at least 212 BCE when the mathematician Archimedes used a “burning glass” (a lens that concentrates the sun’s rays) as a weapon to incinerate an invading Roman fleet. Even what we consider modern solar technology is older than you might think: the solar photovoltaic effect, which is how solar panels turn light into electricity, was discovered in 1839 by French physicist Edmond Becquerel.

The Solar Canopy has you (and your EV) covered

In case you hadn’t heard, rooftop solar isn’t the only game in town. Handcrafted from FSC Certified timber, SunCommon’s Solar Canopy is designed to be a beautiful addition to your property. Offering a comfortable, covered space for storage or relaxation (shady hammock, anyone?), our Canopy can also function as a fossil-fuel-free charging station for your electric vehicle!

The most innovative aspect of the Solar Canopy is its bifacial solar modules. These specially designed panels capture sunshine from the top and the bottom, making the Canopy our most efficient solar system per square foot.

Tesla Solar Roof: New solar technology that’s basically invisible

We’re excited to announce that SunCommon can now offer customers the Solar Roof. This is the latest solar technology from Tesla that combines both solar and non-solar roof tiles for a rooftop solar system that’s nearly indistinguishable from a traditional (shall we say “unempowering”) roof.

At a cost comparable to a new standing seam metal roof plus your current electric bill, you get a workhorse of a roof that’s durable, warrantied for 25 years, and offers all the usual environmental benefits of going solar. Get to know Tesla Solar Roof here.

It’s not just the latest solar technology we’re innovating… Our financing options are improving, too.

We know a lot of people would go solar in a flash if they weren’t worried about the upfront cost. But part of our mission is to break down barriers to clean energy, so we’ve made going solar even more accessible by offering financing options.

With no upfront cost and a low monthly payment, SunCommon customers can realize major savings over the life of their solar system compared to what they would pay their utility. (And let’s be real: utility rates are only going to rise in the coming years). Get the scoop on our financing here.

And when it comes to reducing overall solar costs, we’re the experts on available incentives. If you’re in New York, check it out here; if you’re in Vermont, get incentive info here.

New ideas will shine through

As a country — and as a planet — we’ve only just begun to tap the potential of solar power to transform our energy systems. That’s why innovation, in all its forms, is so very critical, and why we’ve built it into our business model.

We hope you’ll keep up with all our exciting developments.

In the meantime, if any of the latest solar technology piques your interest, you can reach us via the “old” technology options: call or email anytime!
