What is Drawdown?

The word “drawdown” refers to the point in time when greenhouse gases will start decreasing year-to-year, instead of increasing like they are right now, and the Drawdown movement is a plan to get us there. In 2017, the top 100 most effective ways to reverse climate change were compiled and published in a book edited by Paul Hawken, called “Drawdown—The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming.” It became the year’s #1 selling environmental book.

SunCommon is reading Drawdown to raise awareness and drive collective action over the next few months, to show that together we can tackle climate change—and save money in the process.

Saving the planet can start with you saving money. We can help.

We know that achievable and affordable solutions to climate change exist. Of Drawdown’s top 100 solutions, #8 is solar farms (what we call Community Solar Arrays), and #10 is residential rooftop solar. Both of these solutions save the planet and save you money at the same time. It might not feel like one person going solar makes a difference, but Drawdown reminds us that individual actions really do add up to collective change.
