What we’re watching to learn more about Project Drawdown

What is Drawdown? We’ll defer to the experts…

The global challenges posed by climate change are huge, but the good news is that the solutions already exist — we have the technology and the know-how to fix it. The good folks at Project Drawdown did some rigorous research to determine and rank the top 100 solutions currently available to fight climate change.

Here are some short videos to introduce you to the book and its contents.

The 10,000 foot view

This video demonstrates the high-level goals of Project Drawdown. On an interview with CBS, Paul Hawken, editor of the Drawdown book, gives a great, brief overview of the project and why he created it.

What’s different (and what we like!) about his approach is that Drawdown focuses on communicating feasible, scalable solutions to climate change, rather than solely scaring people with the challenges and problems.

A look at the contents of the book

This video begins with the origins and goals of Project Drawdown and goes on to describe some of the most impactful and unexpected interventions the global community can take advantage of to reduce overall carbon emissions.

Rooftop solar (solution #10) makes a cameo in this video at 5:17!

Chad Frischmann gets into the 100 solutions, how they are ranked, and why they are important. His TED talk lays the groundwork for how we get to the future we want to see. Again: focusing on solutions rather than problems can help us achieve this goal.

“We have real, workable technologies and practices to [reverse global warming]… what we need is to accelerate implementation and to change the discourse from one of fear and confusion, which only leads to apathy, to one of understanding and possibility.”
