KAREN NIELSEN

Solar Project Consultant

The SunCommon commercial team is focused on bringing solar options to Vermont businesses, both large and small

Karen grew up in Michigan and western Massachusetts before attending UVM, where she received her degree in Zoology. After that she was off to Cambridge University in England for her Master’s degree in Applied Biology and returned to northern New Hampshire to teach for the continuing education division of the University of New Hampshire-the School for Lifelong Learning.

Karen taught field courses in environmental biology, ornithology and the natural history of northern New England in East Africa, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize and Costa Rica. Later a course in Costa Rica prompted Karen to move there for over 20 years while raising her daughter, Sofia.

Karen remains committed and connected to the protection of the natural environment. She returned to Vermont in 2012 so that Sofia could attend high school in Stowe. Karen enjoys being able to incorporate her personal commitment to the health and well-being of the environment into her professional life. Karen’s free time is spent in the woods with her dogs, cooking Latin food with friends, watching the flock of wild turkeys that visits her house every day and trying to navigate the odyssey of Sofia’s college application process.
