Benefit Corporation in Action!

Did you know that SunCommon NY is a certified Benefit Corporation, also known as a B Corp? This means we are committed to our triple bottom line of People, Planet, and Profit and dedicated to using our business as a force for good.

One of the ways SunCommon NY exercises business as a force for good is through one of our definitions of success – by giving back to our community. We donate shares of our Community Solar Program to non-profits, helping them reduce their operational costs.

Our first two local beneficiaries are the M. K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, a nonprofit that equips people to use nonviolence to create a sustainable and just world for all, and Coffee Connection, a non-profit which empowers women in recovery while offering fair trade, organically grown, sustainably farmed coffee. Our third pilot array will donate shares to the Bethany House. All three share donations will translate to the reduction of each nonprofits’ cost on their electric bills.  Each nonprofit will receive monthly solar credits equating to hundreds of dollars annually for at least 20 years! It is a simple way to support our neighbors and the incredible organizations working toward creating a healthier community.

SunCommon is proud to be apart of a growing global movement of people using business as a force for good. We’re proud of our brothers and sisters in the Rochester area who are also choosing to use business as a force for good –  TGW Studio/This Good WorldThe Good Food Collective,  Staach, Butler Till and Pharos Systems are some of the other B Corporations in our region. We’re hopeful that we’ll see this list grow over time.

Support this corporate culture shift – help encourage businesses to do good, to see people and our planet as important as profit for our community’s bottom line. Support other B Corps!
